The University of
Auckland Tennis Club is an AUSA (Auckland University Students Association)
affiliated club that operates on the city campus. The club's purpose is
to organise tennis games and social activities for its members. The tennis
club meets twice a week for club days at the ASB Bank Tennis
Centre, 72 Stanley Street, just a stone's throw away from the main
city campus. The Tennis Centre is an excellent facility in the heart of
the city, next to the Auckland Domain and boasts indoor and outdoor Rebound
Ace courts.
Membership
Anyone is eligible to join the club and you don't have to be an Auckland
University student to join the club. Members have included Auckland University
staff and graduates, AUT (Auckland University of Technology) students,
as well as members of the public. Playing abilities range from beginners
to premier league players. There is a subscription fee of $40
to join the club for 2005.
Club
Days
Club days are organised twice a week during the semester. This will probably
be increased to three days in semester 2. Courts are booked at the ASB
tennis centre and games can be played as informally or formally as you
choose. Feel free to come and play before you join. In the event of rain,
we have access to a limited number of indoor courts
on Fridays so long as they have not
been booked by other parties.. Since we play in the middle of the afternoon
chances are usually pretty good that we can play.
Club
Competitions
Competitions include: The annual University Games Tournament as well as
the Bartercard Doubles tournament (starts late May). See the competitions
pages for more information. The competitive activities are designed for
players of intermediate to advanced ability. Tryouts are held every year
for the University Games and teams are selected on merit and availability.
Social
Activities
Throughout the year, various social activities are organised for the club
members. Previous activities have included clubbing, raves, skiing trips,
parties and comedy nights. The club endeavours to provide social activities
for all its members. We're open to suggestion....
